Rugged Excursion Hardware was founded on the idea that we can do it better. This idea came from my being issued a large amount of barely serviceable military gear in the last 27 years, and as a result, I had to learn to make my own gear, to my specifications.
I am a 27 year veteran of the Army and National Guard, and am currently serving. I have been deployed to Vandenberg AFB (augmenting base security), been deployed overseas to Kuwait/Afghanistan as a gun truck platoon sergeant escorting logistics convoys into Iraq (I have been to Diamondback/Mosul twice), and as the First Sergeant of an Engineer Battalion Headquarters company in Afghanistan.
During my time overseas, the gear I made for myself and my fellow Soldiers never failed. It never wore out. If someone broke a buckle, I would replace it. I was repairing the issued gear for my Soldiers on deployment.
This commitment to produce the best, longest lasting gear carries on through my current products. My best friend asked me to make a bag for his BMW R1200 GSA. It took a number of tries, but we finally succeeded. I am developing new products as time allows, which unfortunately is in short supply.
In addition to making the motorcycle gear, I am also a full time student in Industrial Design/Drafting Technology. When I am not sewing I am working in 3D CAD. Although my time is at a premium right now, there are some new things in the works. Just stay tuned.
REH started with a 1963 Singer Model 201K sewing machine. This lasted a few years before being relegated to the backup machine. I upgraded to a 1932 Singer Model 19-51. A few years of use, and this was also relegated to reserve status. My current machines are Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1 and LSZ-1 models. Both are walking foot machines, and have easily sewn anything that I have put under the presser feet. As my travel requirments have lessened, I am looking forward to another upgrade, this time to a full industrial machine.
I look forward to supporting your riding needs, both on the trail and off.
Respectfully,
R Hammersley
